Who legally owns a child's passport in the UK?

A child’s passport is generally considered to be owned by the child themselves. There is no specific rule in family and child law regarding who should hold a child’s passport. Typically the passport is kept by the parent with whom the child lives with. To apply for a passport you must get consent from all those with parental responsibility.
