What is a Schedule 1 application?
An application refers to a legal process under Schedule 1 of the Children Act, which allows a court to make financial provision for children.
The application can be made by a parent, guardian, or any person with whom the child lives under a child arrangements order.
The court can make various financial orders, including maintenance payments, a lump sum amount, and property transfers for the benefit of the child. These orders are intended to cover the child’s needs, such as housing, education, and their care until they are 18 or finish their full-time education.
A Schedule 1 application can provide for expenses not covered by child maintenance, or to seek additional maintenance from high earners.
