Is my ex-spouse entitled to anything if I remarry?

If you remarry without having a Financial Order in place from your previous divorce, your ex-spouse may still be entitled to make financial claims against you. You, however, will not be able to make any financial claims as you will have fallen into the “remarriage trap” by remarrying without resolving financial matters from your previous marriage.

To avoid falling into the “remarriage trap” it is important to ensure all financial matters are finalised before remarrying by either obtaining a Financial Consent Order, or by making an application for financial provision prior to remarriage.
