Can a mediator give legal advice?

Mediators are impartial and neutral, and their role is to encourage communication and negotiation between parties to help them reach a mutual agreement. A mediator will listen to both sides points of view, but they won’t take sides, or give legal advice. While they can provide general legal information and discuss possible options, they are not allowed to give specific legal advice to either party.
