What is birdnesting?

As the cost-of-living crisis continues to affect many people in the UK, more and more families are turning to an innovative co-parenting living arrangement known as birdnesting or nesting when they cannot raise sufficient money to buy 2 new family sized homes following divorce.

Birdnesting is a way of living that enables a couple to maintain joint ownership of the family home and for the children to remain living in their usual home. Each parent spends time at the family home with the children and then leaves to live in a separate property elsewhere. This other place can be anywhere that is not the “nest”. This could be in a rented flat or staying with friends or relatives nearby.

The benefits of bird nesting include maintaining a stable home and schooling for children, while reducing household bills after a separation.
