How can I legally cut all financial ties with my ex?
If you were previously married or in a civil partnership with your ex, the most effective way to cut ties is to obtain a court order which includes a clean break.
It is important to remember that a divorce alone does not automatically sever financial ties. Getting divorced or dissolving a civil partnership only legally ends the relationship; it does not prevent your ex from making future financial claims.
A clean break can be achieved by both parties consenting to an Order, or the party seeking the clean break making an application to the court for a financial order which includes a clean break order.
