Are you thinking of divorce?
If you are thinking about starting a divorce; here are some key things to consider:
You can only commence proceedings for divorce once you have been married for at least one year, and you must consider the marriage to have irretrievably broken down.
When starting the proceedings you will need a copy of your marriage certificate. If you don’t have it, you can request a duplicate from the Registrar of births, deaths, and marriages.
There will be a court fee to commence the divorce, however if you are on a low income or receiving benefits, you may be eligible for help with the court fee.
It is important to note that divorce proceedings only ends the marriage. You will need to make separate arrangements for dealing with finances, property division and any disputes in relation to children.
