Does a period of cohabitation count in marriage?

Upon divorce or dissolution any time spent living together as a couple before the marriage or civil partnership will be counted by the Court towards the total length of the marriage.

As more couples are living together prior to legally formalising their relationship, courts tend to view the length of a relationship rather than the length of a marriage.

This is as long as there has been a seamless transition from cohabitation to marriage.
